Glory coach says he'll complete contract
By James Dampney 04/12/2005 08:35:30 PM

Perth Glory coach Steve McMahon is fed-up with speculation over his future and insists he will see out the terms of his contract with the A-League club.

The former Liverpool and England midfielder has had to deal with constant rumours over his future since reports surfaced of a player revolt in July.

The talk dissipated following the club's promising recent run in the A-League, moving into the top four after a five-match unbeaten streak that ended with a home loss to Newcastle last weekend.

But a report in the Sunday Times newspaper claims McMahon faces the sack regardless of where the team finishes at season's end.

McMahon signed a two-year contract in January that stipulates the club can terminate the deal after one season if Perth fail to reach the top four.

If McMahon does guide them into the top four in his first season, he will have the decision whether to continue with the second year of the contract.

His time in Perth got off to a rocky start, labelling his players "frightened" during a fiery press conference in May following Glory's loss to Sydney FC in a Club World Championship qualifier.

The club was then forced to publicly back McMahon after reports of a player revolt.

McMahon has also been criticised for recruiting foreign strikers Brian Deane and Neil Teggart, who have both left the club, plus his son Steve McMahon jnr.

Sunday's report supposedly came from a source within the club and McMahon came out swinging.
