Anderson and Sharks in family feud
30/09/2003 10:08:11 PM

Cronulla officials are once again at loggerheads with their coach Chris Anderson after the National Rugby League club failed to offer his son Jarrad a new playing contract.

Sharks president Barry Pierce confirmed the club had decided not to extend Jarrad's deal into next season.

Anderson is understood to be angry about the decision to cut his son, who scored 94 points in 14 games for the Sharks this season.

In an apparent tit for tat, Pierce said Anderson had subsequently refused to work with his son next season, assistant coach Greg Pierce.

Anderson has also refused to work with football manager Theo Burgess, Pierce said.

"The Cronulla board supported a recommendation ... to release Jarrad Anderson," Pierce said.

"... (general manager) Steve Rogers advised (Chris) of this and then Jarrad the next day.

"We'll be handling this in a professional manner.

"If Chris doesn't want these people working with him we'll find them other jobs."

Pierce confirmed the club would retain Burgess in a different role, and he said his son had other work to do as the Sharks' operations manager.
