Penrith won't be receiving an explanation from the Australian Rugby League as to why Preston Campbell missed out on the Kangaroo tour.

The in-form Campbell was overlooked by national selectors for the 23-man squad which will play Tests against New Zealand and Great Britain.

Coach Chris Anderson admitted the versatile 26-year-old's name came up in discussions, but the selectors couldn't find a place for him in their final squad.

Penrith chief executive Shane Richardson had said he would seek an explanation from the ARL if Campbell - who was from Cronulla by Anderson - was omitted.

But ARL chairman Colin Love said there would be no exception made for Campbell.

"They won't get an answer," Love said.

"You'd have to answer to every player playing in the NRL if you did that."

Richardson claimed the livewire Campbell should have been among the 23 players selected for the tour, which included five Panthers.

"I'm disappointed for Preston but I never really thought Chris (Anderson) would pick him," he said.

"The bottom line is every person in that 81,000 who were there last night thinks he should be in the Australian side.
