Adelaide Crows defender Andrew McLeod is expected to be fit for the start of the 2009 AFL season despite undergoing knee surgery.

The club said McLeod had an operation on his troublesome right knee on Tuesday and while it was a setback for veteran he should be able to resume training in mid-January.

"The procedure was aimed at producing a cartilage type substance which will assist with cushioning within that knee," said Crows doctor Andrew Potter.

"He will be required to use crutches for the next six weeks and will resume modified training in three months."

Crows Football Operations Manager John Reid said McLeod had been able to manage his knee problem for some time and was confident of being able to do so again next season.
