Promising signs for Tuqiri ahead of tour
By Greg Buckle 23/10/2008 03:27:04 PM

Wallabies winger Lote Tuqiri is making solid progress in a bid to prove his fitness for the Australian rugby team's Spring Tour.

Tuqiri is recovering from minor knee surgery and has resumed running in the past week.

A Wallabies team spokesman said Tuqiri didn't train with the main group at Manly's Brookvale Oval on Thursday but performed well and will need to prove his fitness again later this week.

"Lote didn't train with the team but he did a test and he's okay," the spokesman said.

"But there's no decision made. He needs to get through everything that's thrown at him until Sunday."

No.8 Wycliff Paul also appears on track in his recovery from a knee complaint.

"He was involved in bits and pieces (of training) and he has come through alright," the spokesman said.

The Wallabies depart on Monday for a six-match tour which kicks off with a Bledisloe Cup Test against New Zealand in Hong Kong on November 1, followed by clashes with Italy, France, England, Wales and the Barbarians.

Tuqiri said his knee injury was coming along fine.

"So fingers crossed it will keep doing that," Tuqiri told AAP at the team's Manly hotel before training.

"I'm not running at 100 per cent yet. I probably could if I wanted to but they said just to lay off and run at about 80 to 85 and that's what I've been doing.

"I've been pretty happy with how it has been progressing."
