AFL player fined for taxi rank scuffle

A taxi-rank scuffle has cost AFL player Joel Macdonald a $250 fine after he appeared on a public nuisance charge in a Brisbane court on Friday. But the Brisbane Lions defender will have to wait until next month to learn whether his AFL club takes any further action. The Brisbane Magistrates Court heard the 23-year-old was with friends when they got into a dispute with another group of men at a Fortitude Valley nightclub early on September 20. The two groups later clashed again at a nearby taxi rank. The court heard a scuffle ensued and Macdonald and another 23-year-old man were charged with public nuisance offences. Macdonald was fined but no conviction was recorded. Outside the court, Macdonald did not wish to comment. The Lions will discuss whether to take any further action against Macdonald at a regular board meeting early next month. New Lions coach Michael Voss held his own investigation into the incident and was treating the matter "seriously".
