Anderson sacked by Cronulla
By Phil Hamilton 01/12/2003 09:24:00 PM

Cronulla Sharks coach Chris Anderson has been sacked by the National Rugby League club.

Anderson, who returned last week from coaching Australia to a 3-0 series victory over Great Britain, was called to the meeting with the Sharks board to discuss his future after incurring his third breach notice just before the tour.

He had ditched support staff, one of whom was Cronulla president Barry Pierce's son Greg, for the Kangaroos tour in an apparent retaliation for his son Jarrad not being offered another contract at Cronulla.

"The board has resolved to terminate my employment with the Sharks," said Anderson.

"I am bitterly disappointed. I was committed to seeing out my contract with the Sharks. I put my case to the board tonight but unfortunately the board was not persuaded.

" ... I feel like I have not been given a fair go."

Anderson said he would consider his options after consulting his family and legal representatives but he wished the players well.

"The club has a healthy player base and I would have enjoyed helping the players and club reach their potential in 2004," he said.

"I wish the players all the best for the 2004 season."

Anderson was contracted for next season with an option of a further two more if the Sharks made the finals in 2004.
