The Significance of the Closing Ceremony

The final act during San Fermin takes place at midnight on July 14 as the festival comes to a teary farewell at the Plaza del Ayuntamiento after 204 hours of non-stop fiesta. It's a truly authentic Spanish experience enjoyed by comparatively few overseas travellers, though word of its significance and appeal is inevitably spreading, with good reason.

The tradition of drawing San Fermin to a close commences with a full day of action including the daily bull-run at 8am plus all the usual street parades and festivities. What follows is arguably the finest of all the evening street fiestas in build up to the closing fireworks display and ceremonious finale.

As with the Opening Ceremony, though with a more sombre, almost spiritual reverence, thousands converge onto the streets and amass in front of the Town Hall in anticipation of the spectacular midnight closing ritual.

With candles swaying high in the air, the sound of Spanish folksong echoes through the city in an emotionally charged chorus before, finally, the thousands of flames are doused and red scarves removed to bring the curtain down on another year's festivities.

The Opening & Closing Ceremonies are equally significant events during the San Fermin Festival. So whichever option you choose you are in for an incredible Pamplona experience.
