Weary Broncos win a tight tussle

A 95 metre try by young Broncos winger Scott Minto in the 72nd minute of play secured a dramatic
24-20 win against league leaders the Canberra Raiders at Bruce Stadium Today.

With nine Broncos backing up from Origin 1 and no Raiders, many fans thought it would be the usual Origin hangover from the Broncos. But those fears were put to rest when big prop Petro Civoniceva scored in the 17th minute. Followed up by a Darren Lockyer try gave the Broncos a comfy 12 nil lead mid way through the first half.

A double before half time from Canberra centre Joel Monaghan sent the home side down only by 2 points. The Raiders regain the momentum after the break as the Hat-trick was completed by Monaghan and Home side was up 14-12, that's untill a Michael De Vere converted try in the 60th minute regain the lead for the Broncos.

The next 10 minutes were riddled with mistakes and both teams and Canberra capatilized from a Brisbane knock on and Rueben Wiki scored to give the Raiders the lead for the first time in the afternoon.

An unknown baby Bronco Scott Minto gave the Broncos the match after a 95 metre effort which saw Michael De Vere land his 4th sucsesive conversion and hand the Broncos the match. But more was still to come...

A furious 8 minutes of classic football saw the Broncos defend repeats sets in the final minute and a half.

After Bill Harrigan blew the final whistle Brisbane and Queensland fullback said 'it was the greatest cliffhanger i have ever played in. I knew if we could defend well for those repeat sets we would walk away with the points.'

A quality ending to a quality game.
