Inside the Sheds

So Gasnier's going eh? What about that. A bloke in the prime of his career deciding to head overseas and mix it with the rah-rahs. I don't begrudge anyone chasing the cash, first and foremost you've got to do the best for yourself and your family. But it just seems such a waste for a star in his prime to just take off and move to Paris. Here's my next tip, watch him get homesick after six months. Watch the circus explode again when the whispers get out about him missing the surf breaks back home or his mates or whatever the reasoning is. At 27, I reckon Gasnier's looked at it and said, you know what, I can go for two years, cop the cash and then still come home and play some more NRL if I want. I reckon he'll get bored in union. Anyway, good luck.

PARRAMATTA. What a choke. These blokes have easliy been the most disappointing side this season. Seriously, they've hardly looked interested all year. I don't know what's happening in western Sydney, but if you ask me it's probably not enough. The only player who's been held accountable all year is Eric Grothe, and otherwise coach Michael Hagan continues to resist the temptation to make change. For mine, they need to reshuffle their forward pack. Daniel Wagon and Chad Robinson should be on the bench, with Weller Hauraki and FuiFui MoiMoi into the starting side. To be brutally honest, Nathan Cayless isn't doing a lot for me anymore. I'd be looking to get rid of him for next season and get a new cornerstone in the frontrow.

IT was a shame Brett Hodgosn couldn't have gone out a winner in his final NRL match at Campbelltown. He's a champion player and an even better bloke. Melbourne looked super-impressive and will be right in their when all the whips start to crack later in the year. The Tigers, on the other hand, you need get cracking or risk being left right out when it comes to September.

HOW good is it to see South Sydney back in the mix. Five wins in a row and I reckon every NRL fan feels better when the Bunnies are flying. It's probably no coincidence the turnaround started around the time when Rusty Crowe told Peter Holmes a Court to go back to managing stage shows or whatever he was doing prior to producing his magic wand at Redfern. I hope they can maintain their good form for the rest of the year and maybe even give a little bit of mathematical cheek in terms of the playoffs.

  • Prowler - should the NRL be worried about losing its top stars to O/S more frequently? Should they consider a marquee player system as per the A-League?
