Did anyone say tomatoes?

Well if you didnt like tomatoes before you will love them after La Tomatina. The thought now of being back in Bunol for the tomato fight still puts a smile on my face, the fact that you are surrounded by people you have only met minutes before and are about to squash tomatoes at each other is hilarious. The whole concept still tickles me but one of the funniest and happiest hours of my life. It is something that the Spanish are very proud of and bring all their family to get involved.

Another great thing about La Tom is the pig on a stick. The pole is completely covered in grease and has a massive chunk of ham on the top. The aim is to climb the pole and whoever gets the ham wins. Now i cant see how it is possible but it does get done, but not for a while now. The guys are pulling each other off to try and make it as high as they can, so if you are with some mates that is the best way to be so you can help each other out and defend other contenders.

After the tomato fight is over and you are covered from head to toe in tomatoes, you wander back to the centre to find the locals standing outside their houses with hose pipes to wash you down. The happy and friendly spirit is all around and the smile stays glued to your face The fact that you still find tomato seeds days later are there to remind you of the experience you just had. Although its only a short festival it is still largely participated and largely successful!
