Storm ready for former team-mate Inglis

Melbourne and their Queensland State of Origin contingent have promised to give former team-mate Greg Inglis a tough examination when they face South Sydney on Sunday.

Set to return from a hip injury in the NRL match, Inglis will be out to impress Queensland selectors after missing the Maroons' opening Origin win over NSW.

He would be a welcome Queensland replacement for centre Willie Tonga, who played the bulk of that game with a partially dislocated shoulder.

But Cooper Cronk, who is one of four Queenslanders in the Storm line-up alongside Cameron Smith, Billy Slater and Dane Nielsen, said the Storm wouldn't make his selection trial at ANZ Stadium an easy one.

"He's coming back from an injury and he obviously wants to be a part of the Queensland team in the upcoming game so he's going to look for a big performance," Cronk said.

"Unfortunately he's on my side of the field as well, so hopefully we can knock that fend down and get stuck into him.

"All's fair in love and war so we'll go out there and try and stop him."

Cronk said they would have an advantage over other teams who have taken on the giant Inglis, with Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy nurturing him since he was a junior before his departure to Sydney.

"Craig knows him better than most people so we'll try and put a few things in place, some tactics so hopefully he doesn't have a big impact on the game."

The Storm are in second position on the NRL ladder after posting an unimpressive 14-8 victory over lowly Cronulla on Sunday at home.

Cronk was aware that the side faces a tough back-end of the competition, with only four remaining games in Melbourne.

"I think three losses and a few wins is good," he said.

"At the start of the year we got blown off the paddock by the Cowboys but we've developed a few habits and cultures that help us stick out through tough games.

"Time will tell, it's going to be a test of our character."
