When Bavarian crown prince Ludwig married his beloved princess Therese in the fields in front of the town gates of Munich on October 12 1810, he would have had no idea that his love would spawn the beer drinking, clog stomping, polka dancing phenomenon Oktoberfest.
Festival Dates: 20 Sept - 5 Oct, 2008
Where: Munich, Germany
Last year 5.9 million people attended the 16 day festival, making it the biggest public festival on earth.
One point caught the eye of the Fanatics as we looked at the pictures of fat Germans in tights mingling with gorgeous European naughties. 5.9 million people consumed only 5.7 million litres of beer. Now I don’t know about you but I think less than a litre average per person is pretty slow going. Put it this way a Schooner is 425ml and a Pot is 285ml. That means that every Friday night when you down your average 10 schooners or 15 pots you’re drinking more than the average Oktoberfest attendee downs in a fortnight.
To remedy this dire situation the Fanatics have decided to step up to the plate, don the yellow t-shirts and head to Munich to up the average.
