Lleyton Hewitt is the lone Australian survivor in singles action at the US Open tennis tournament following second-round defeats for Samantha Stosur and Nicole Pratt at Flushing Meadows.
Stosur lost 6-2 6-2 to Russian 14th seed Nadia Petrova before Pratt fell 6-3 6-3 to Russian ninth seed Svetlana Kuznetsova.
Hewitt, the fourth seed in the men's event, plays Moroccan left-hander Hicham Arazi in the second round.
