Sydney FC has signed former Everton youth team member David Carney.

Carney was offered a contract after impressing Head Coach Pierre Littbarski during a trial with the Hyundai A-League club this week.

Carney, who joins Sydney FC from Scottish side Hamilton Academicals, is the seventh player Sydney FC has brought back to Australia after five seasons in the UK.

The highlight of his European adventure came when Carney played for Everton in the Youth FA Cup Final with Manchester United star Wayne Rooney.

The former U20 Australian representative will fill a midfield role with Sydney FC after standing out among the triallists currently showing their wares at the club's training facilities at Parklea.

"David impressed me during his trial and we have decided to offer him a contract," Littbarski said.

"He is our 17th player and we will be filling the last two places before the deadline on Tuesday.

"I think it is important to have the squad finalised as soon as possible as I stated when I arrived in the job."

Sydney FC will continue its pursuit of former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke.
