Criticism will fire up Blues: Civoniceva

Criticism by former Origin players will have NSW ready to rip into Queensland like a tropical cyclone in Origin II on Wednesday night, according to Maroons prop Petero Civoniceva.

Former Blues props Mark Carroll and Mark Geyer have been scathing in condemnation of the NSW forwards for failing to take the battle back to Queensland firebrand Carl Webb when he came off the bench in Origin 1 and launched into Luke Bailey and have called on them to ensure it doesn't happen again.

Civoniceva said the criticism would hit the NSW players hard.

"They're going to be primed for a big one for sure," said Civoniceva, who will take on a more senior role with fellow prop Steve Price out injured.

"I've seen the newspapers.

"From the criticism they've copped in Sydney from players who've gone before them, I know they won't want to disappoint anyone.

"It's going to be huge down there with 80,000 fans and a massive audience of TV.

"They won't want to be embarrassed by us winning and clinching the series 2-0, it would be a big body blow for them.

"A lot of guys will be fired up by those comments and will be looking for some big performances."

Civoniceva said Queensland had not made a big fuss over Andrew Johns' Origin return.
