The International Cricket Council (ICC) has donated $US500,000 ($A657,000) to earthquake relief in Pakistan and Asia.

ICC chief executive Malcolm Speed said the money is effectively the gate takings for the second day of the Super Test between Australia and a World XI in Sydney on Saturday.

Two Pakistanis in the World squad, Test captain Inzamam-ul-Haq and fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar, have expressed their support for the initiative.

The ICC, which organised charity matches to raise funds for victims of last year's Asian tsunami, said the Saturday would also be used as a global fund-raising appeal.

"We believe that's the best way that cricket can show its remorse, can show the people of the countries that have been affected that we're thinking of them," Speed said.

Donations can be made by calling 1300 811 700 in Australia or visiting www.redcross.org.au.
