England in best possible shape: Robinson

England coach Andy Robinson says his players have had the ideal preparation for Saturday's clash with Australia and that there are no excuses left.

Robinson has had the luxury of giving his players Wednesday and Thursday off after the Premiership clubs allowed him to work with his full squad for two weeks before the match.

It is a situation that has enabled Robinson and his assistants to plan their strategy without the fear of injuries and late withdrawals that have so often hampered preparations.

"The two-week training camp has ensured that we have been able to approach training differently including our physical and mental preparation and we feel that we are ready and prepared for Saturday," Robinson said.

"Having Wednesday and Thursday off is different but it also shows we feel we are ready and it enables the players to have that physical break.

"We wanted to ensure that come Saturday the players had plenty in the tank. It will be a fast game played at pace with a lot of intensity.

"The cooperation of the Premiership clubs has been outstanding, which has enabled us to prepare in the way we want. We are very well prepared and we want a quick game on Saturday."

Robinson will look for his team to hit the ground running at Twickenham following a dismal last season which included a 21-19 defeat by Australia a year ago.

Robinson said he accepted England had lost ground in the two years since they won the World Cup in Sydney and that the November internationals against Australia, New Zealand and Samoa were the first steps towards a return to the top of the pile.

"Obviously, since the last World Cup we have not stayed still and not moved forward - we have dropped off the pace," he said.
