Towering West Australian paceman Brett Dorey has been included in Australia's 14-man squad for the triangular one-day series after a well-travelled past that included working as a bodyguard in Europe for a Russian businessman.

Dorey, 28, is the leading wicket-taker in the Pura Cup this season with 26 scalps at 23.26 and has taken seven wickets in five ING Cup matches.

Glenn McGrath is back in the squad for the series, which starts on Friday with Australia playing Sri Lanka at Melbourne's Telstra Dome.

McGrath, 35, was rested for last month's Chappell-Hadlee Series in New Zealand.

West Australian batsman Damien Martyn also returns after recovering from a finger injury, replacing Victoria's Brad Hodge.

Dorey, meanwhile, replaces Victorian quick Mick Lewis and Queensland all-rounder James Hopes comes in for Victoria's Cameron White.

Queensland left-arm quick Mitchell Johnson has been omitted.

Australian chairman of selectors Trevor Hohns said the inclusion of Dorey, 28, was part of a focus on next year's World Cup.

Brett is an exciting prospect who has good height (203cm) and is able to generate good bounce," Hohns said.

Dorey represented Western Australia at Under 19 level in 1997 before travelling to Europe where he fell into a role as bodyguard to the children of a wealthy Russian businessman.

Returning to WA, Dorey had another go at cricket in 2004.

"To think that two years ago I thought I'd never play cricket again and now I've been chosen to represent my country, it's just amazing," he said.

Hohns said White, Lewis, Hodge and Johnson were still in line for World Cup spots.

"With the return of McGrath, Martyn and Hopes it just wasn't possible to find room for everyone and the view is now firmly on preparing for the World Cup in 15 months time," Hohns said.

Australia: Ricky Ponting (captain), Adam Gilchrist, Nathan Bracken, Stuart Clark, Michael Clarke, Brett Dorey, Brad Hogg, James Hopes, Michael Hussey, Simon Katich, Brett Lee, Damien Martyn, Glenn McGrath, Andrew Symonds.
