Round three heats at the Quiksilver Pro France surfing event have been postponed due to stormy conditions.

Remaining round three heats at the $US250,000 ($A362,371) World Championship Tournament event will likely resume Thursday.

Messy 1.3 metre waves were again on offer in Hossegor, with strong onshore winds and rain.

When the round resumes, three Australians will be in action.

The Gold Coast's world No.2 Joel Parkinson meets French wildcard Patrick Beven, 1999 world champion Mark Occhilupo faces compatriot Phil MacDonald and six-time title winner Kelly Slater clashes with wildcard Australian Troy Brooks.

Reigning world champion Andy Irons of Hawaii will face another French wildcard in Frederick Robin.
