Inglis likely starter against Dragons

Melbourne superstar Greg Inglis rates himself an "80 per cent chance" of being fit for Saturday's NRL preliminary final clash with St George Illawarra at Telstra Stadium.

Inglis has been hampered by an Achilles tendon/ankle injury which sidelined him for the Storm's 12-6 win against Parramatta a fortnight ago, but has made steady progress during his side's week off.

The 19-year-old joined his teammates in Saturday's inter-club practice match and got through the 40-minute game unscathed.

"It was a good hit-out yesterday and it's coming along good, so I hope to be coming back next week against the red-hot Dragons," Inglis said on Sunday night.

"I played freely, I was there for the whole session.

"It was a bit of fitness and conditioning and I pulled up alright.

"I'm not definite at the moment but I'm hopeful, I'm about an 80 per cent chance."

The Queensland three-quarter, who is unsure which position he'll play on Saturday, said the week off was a big help to his recovery.

"It helped a lot actually, it was really good to get my Achilles right," he said.

"If I'd played last week I may have aggravated it even more.

"Hopefully we'll have a full-strength side because the Dragons are at their peak at this time of year."

Several players were only allowed restricted contact in Saturday's practice match, but physiotherapist Mary Toomey said that was only a precautionary measure.

"It looks like the coach will have the (selection) problems this week, not me," Toomey said of the squad's clean bill of health.

"The guys carrying injuries came through fine.

"(Inglis) did the full training session and made sure he told me several times during the day how fantastic he was.

"David Kidwell and Jake Webster (cheekbone) were restricted with contact in wrestling due to head injuries from the previous weekend.

"Matt King and Brett White (hamstring) did an hour of training and then we pulled them out of it because it was the most they've done, we're just restricting their workload a bit.

"They'll do a full week of training this week."
