League legend Lamb accused of assault

Former rugby league legend Terry Lamb is alleged to have assaulted a fellow golfer on a golf course last month.

Lamb on Thursday refused to comment on the claims aired on the Nine Network that he assaulted the man on the 18th green of the Cabramatta golf course on October 27.

Lamb is said to have attacked club member Greg Davidson at the end of a 'slow' round and punched him in the face.

Other golfers separated the two men and Davidson reported the incident to the club and police and was taken to Baulkham Hills hospital for fears of a broken nose and jaw but was only diagnosed with bruising.

Police confirmed that a 45-year-old Abbotsbury man had been issued a court attendance notice for the offence of assault in an alleged incident at the club.

The man is due to face Liverpool Local Court on December 13, police said.

Lamb on Thursday would not discuss details of the incident but refuted claims he had been charged to face court on December 13.

"(Network Nine) said it's going to court in December. I have not been informed of anything from the police," Lamb told AAP.

"I cannot tell you anything because it's still being investigated.

"It's obviously already come out in the press."

A spokesman for the Cabramatta Golf Club confirmed a meeting had been planned for Thursday night to investigate the incident, but it was abandoned following the media interest in the hearing.

"We called the meeting off because we do not want it run through a circus," he said.

"We have not got the facts. We were going to have a meeting to find out all about it.

"We are just a working man's club."

Lamb is one of the legends of rugby league having played over 300 games and helped guide Canterbury Bulldogs to three premierships.

Despite his unbelievable talent as a five-eighth Lamb only played for NSW in four State of Origin matches and Australia in seven Tests.

He had a brief first grade coaching career at Wests Tigers from 2001-2002, but his time was plagued by unrest with a dispute with high profile player Terry Hill, drug scandals among players and winger John Hopoate suspended for his infamous bum-poking antics.
