Collingwood chasing century

England batsman Paul Collingwood has the perfect chance to score his first Ashes century on day two of the second Test against Australia.

Collingwood will resume on 98, and no doubt fully aware he was dismissed for 96 in the first Test in Brisbane.

He and Kevin Pietersen, who will resume on 60, are well-placed to boost England's score from 3-266 into the big total the tourists need to put Australia under pressure this Test.

The fact Pietersen and Collingwood can build on their 108-run stand gives England a great chance of mounting a big first innings total.

However Australia will be chasing quick wickets, which will give the home side the advantage given the batting-friendly conditions.

Mild conditions are forecast, with hotter temperatures expected over the weekend.

Play starts at 11am (1130 AEDT).
