Hawthorn midfielder Luke Hodge hopes he can help create a premiership-winning culture by committing to the AFL club for another two years.

Hodge, 22, will remain a Hawk until the end of 2009 after signing a new deal reportedly worth over $1 million.

He hopes he and his teammates can commit to Hawthorn and forge a team bond similar to that of the Brisbane Lions of 2001-04, who reached four grand finals and won three premierships.

"You see when Brisbane had a tight team and you see what they achieved," Hodge told the Nine Network.

"So as long as we can stay together and work together it's going to be good for us.

"I think we have got a group there where over the next couple of years we are premiership potential."

Hodge is currently captaining the Hawks in the absence of Richie Vandenberg, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Hodge made his debut in 2002 and has played 90 games.
