Rain spoiled the first qualifying session for Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix but Ferrari still topped the time sheet.
Rubens Barrichello led world champion Michael Schumacher, then came the Sauber of Nick Heidfeld and the Jordan of Ralph Firman.
Mark Webber was ninth fastest, a second and a half quicker than Jaguar team-mate Antonio Pizzonia at No.17.
