Fevola says he owes Carlton

Carlton full-forward Brendan Fevola says he needs to continue producing his best because he owes his AFL club after fearing the sack earlier this year for urinating in a public place.

Fevola said he feared he would be sacked by the Blues for urinating outside a nightclub before the first game of the season, the latest of a long line of alcohol-related misdemeanours over his career.

Instead he was fined $10,000 by Carlton, dumped from the leadership group and threatened he would be sacked if he was involved in another alcohol-related controversy.

Fevola has booted 15 goals in the past two games, but said he had to maintain that form to make up for his ways and win back the respect of his teammates.

"It's pretty tough when I've stuffed up a few times, so I've had to get that (respect) back a few times," Fevola told the Nine Network's The Footy Show.

"There's only so much they can take, so I owe the footy club and my teammates a fair bit, so I'm just trying to do that with the footy.

"Hopefully I'll let my footy do the talking ... and hopefully win some footy games for the boys."

Fevola's eight goals helped beat Collingwood last Sunday and snap Carlton's 14-game losing streak.

The Blues will be chasing successive wins on Sunday when they play bottom side Melbourne.

Fevola, 26, said he feared he could have been sacked after his latest misdemeanour.

"I was pretty shattered, I went into the club thinking I was going to get sacked," the 2006 Coleman medallist said.

"There's only so many times you can muck up."

To ensure he did not misbehave again and jeopardise his career, Fevola said he planned not to drink alcohol for the remainder of the season.

"I won't be having a drink because that seems to be the problem," he said.

"I don't usually get in trouble when I'm not on the sauce but if I have a drink I tend to stuff up and have too much fun, so the bottom line is don't drink and I'll be right."
