Australia A has won their opening Pacific Nation Cup encounter against Japan 42-21 at Fukuoka, Japan.

The Australians ran in six tries, including a brace to Brumbies lock Peter Kimlin, to overwhelm a gallant Japanese outfit and claim a bonus point in front of 7,493 fans in southern Japan.

Other tries to Van Humphries, Mark Gerrard, Morgan Turinui and Sam Norton-Knight capped off an impressive hit-out for coach Phil Mooney's team.

Turinui opened the scoring for Australia after a Norton-Knight midfield bust before a superb team effort resulted in Gerrard's try.

Kimlin scored then set up a try for Van Humphries before the break to help Australia to a 28-3 lead.

While the visitors opened up the scoring in the second half through Norton-Knight, Japan bagged two tries and outscored them 18-14, at one stage enjoying a two-man advantage with Guy Shepherdson and Julian Salvi both sin binned within minutes of each other.

Australia A's next match is against Samoa in Apia next Sunday.
