AFL finals prices 'in line with 2007'

The AFL is set to hold tickets to this year's finals series to last year's prices - at least for the first two weeks.

League boss Andrew Demetriou said he was determined that Australian Rules should remain among the most affordable sport to attend in light of the current nosediving economy.

"We've absolutely got to maintain affordability and I think you'll see when we announce our finals prices, we've taken that into consideration," Demetriou told Southern Cross radio.

Demetriou said there would be no price hike this year "for a couple of weeks, the first two weeks if we have our way.

"That's what we're going to put to the (AFL) commission."

In the opening week of last year's finals at the MCG the standard adult price for admission was $41.70, concession was $29.40, junior $10.50 and family $87.90. Tickets for Telstra Dome finals were slightly lower.

In the second week an adult paid $46.80, the concession price was $32.50, a junior $17.70 and the family ticket was $98.10.

It is not yet known what price the league will charge for the third week of the finals or the grand final.

Last year's standard adult ticket in the third week was $75.40 while for the grand final the price was $159.50.

Demetriou said the league had forecast a cap on ticket prices in the first two weeks of September to allow fans to plan ahead.

"We think we're in a great position at this point in time because I think we've tried to take the risk out of it."

Demetriou said that "from our perspective" it was not expensive to attend home and away games.

"We pride ourselves on affordability. We charge $18.50 for adults and $2.20 for children and that's up to 15 years of age - same price for 10 years, and two adults who take two children along, the children get in for free," he said.
