St Kilda have settled their dispute with former coach Grant Thomas, after a court had ruled against the AFL club.

The Saints sacked Thomas at the end of the 2006 season and on July 4, the Victorian County Court awarded him more than $205,000 over the dismissal.

The club issued a media release late Friday, saying they had reached a "mutually agreeable position" and had settled out of court for an undisclosed sum.

"We respect that this has been a difficult time for Grant, and for the club, and are glad that we have now reached a resolution," Saints chief executive Archie Fraser said in the statement.

"Grant is, and always will be, an important part of the history of St Kilda.

"Grant has played a significant role in shaping St Kilda into what it is today and it's important for Grant and the club that we can both now move on.

"We look forward to a time when Grant and his family are welcomed back to the St Kilda fold."

The club had until today to appeal against the court ruling.
