Broncos focused only on footie: Lockyer

Brisbane captain Darren Lockyer says his players have blocked out the off-field dramas and are focused totally on their NRL semi-final with reigning premier Melbourne at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night.

The Queensland and Australian captain battled his way through a difficult eight minute press conference on Wednesday in which he repeatedly refused to comment on questions about three of the club's star players currently under police investigation for an alleged sexual assault on a 24-year-old woman in a Brisbane nightclub toilet last weekend.

Asked as captain of the club had he spoken to the three players being questioned by police - reportedly Karmichael Hunt, Sam Thaiday and Darius Boyd - he said: "no"

He also gave the same answer when asked if he thought the club should have stood the three players down from Saturday night's game.

"It's not my call, I'm not going to comment on that," he said."

Pushed further if he was disappointed in the players, he said "I'm here to talk about the footy guys."

"Obviously it's a big story but at this stage they're innocent so I'm not going to buy into talking too much about the whole issue."

Brisbane is conducting its own internal investigations into the players' activities which has sent the six-time premiers into crisis mode with a number of other allegations arising from a day of binge drinking.

The events of last Saturday, which started at a prominent Brisbane hotel and continued in the early hours of the morning, have triggered concerns the club could lose hundred of thousands of dollars in sponsorship deals.

The police investigations are continuing and it's possible they may not be completed until after the grand final is played on October 5.

While the drama has impacted heavily on the Broncos, fans have snapped up almost all of the 52,000 tickets for the game which is almost certain to be a sellout.

"It will have a State of Origin atmosphere," said Lockyer before the team held a closed session at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday morning.
