Cox named Eagles best

Star ruckman Dean Cox has been rewarded for his stunning AFL season with his first ever West Coast club champion award.

Cox, a four-time All-Australian, had never finished better than third in previous Eagles best and fairest counts.

But after a season where he averaged 22 possessions and 26 hit-outs per match despite suffering a fractured foot in round three, the 27-year-old simply could not be ignored.

The 167-game veteran was a runaway winner with 450 votes, 90 more than second-placed Quinten Lynch, who was a revelation in the latter part of the season as a big-bodied midfielder.

Adam Selwood was third with 315, while Andrew Embley (281), skipper Darren Glass (269) and Matt Priddis (266) rounded out the top six.

The rookie of the year award was won by forward Ben McKinley, who was also the club's leading goalkicker with 42 goals, while the Chris Mainwaring Medal for the best clubman was won by utility Jaymie Graham.

It was a big night for Cox, who along with Glass, Embley and Daniel Kerr was awarded life membership for passing 150 games.

Inaugural squad member Phil Scott also received life membership.
