Satisfying to stifle Warriors: Wallace

Star Brisbane halfback Peter Wallace says it was "true satisfaction" to frustrate the Warriors out of the game on their own home turf on Saturday.

The 26-10 walloping at Auckland's Mt Smart Stadium ruined the Kiwis' epic home win tally and gave the Queenslanders their first Auckland victory since 2006, not to mention propelling them to the top of the NRL table.

"It's never easy to come here and play," Wallace said.

"I've usually got my tail between my legs so it's true satisfaction to win it and get to the top of the board as well."

He said the key to the win was the early pressure on the Kiwis that frustrated them out of the game.

"They had a few shots at our line early and we held them out which they didn't like, and we took it from there," he said.

Wallace was instrumental in that quick start, engineering the first try for prop Joel Clinton in the 12th minute, and then quickly setting up another with a cut out pass to centre Steve Michaels who touched down.

The Broncos didn't let up with more tries from centre Israel Folau, utility Alex Glenn and Darren Lockyer before the Warriors staged a mini revival an hour in.

Second rower Simon Mannering and young forward Ukuma Ta'ai both scored four pointers, but the deed was done and they lost a star, class act Brent Tate, in the process.

Tate, a Kangaroo and Queensland Origin representative, ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in the 25th minute during a failed scoring bid.

Club doctor John Mayhew said the injury, which mirrors a left knee injury from the 2007 State of Origin, was likely to be season-ending.

Warriors skipper Steve Price said Tate, who is his brother-in-law, was "very upset", especially as he'd been through it all before.

"He knows what's coming and that makes it worse," Price said.

Tate joins a growing list of Warriors casualties, including winger Manu Vatuvei (knee), utility Lance Hohaia (knee) and young forwards Ben Matulino (ankle) and Leeson Ah Mau (shoulder).

None of that quartet is expected to be available for the visit of South Sydney next Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Broncos will have a visit from the St George Dragons on Friday, with Wallace predicting "an even fight".

"They'll be hard," he said.

"They have a pretty good record against Brisbane so they'll get confidence from that but we've got them at home luckily."
