Harvey blasts wayward Dockers

Fremantle coach Mark Harvey has blasted his wayward charges, labelling their 63-point AFL loss to the Bulldogs as unacceptable.

The Dockers, who kicked a wayward 13.16 for the match, were put to the sword by a slick Bulldogs outfit, who capitalised on numerous turnovers committed by the home side.

A frustrated Harvey said the performance wasn't good enough and laid the blame squarely on the senior players.

The coach was particularly incensed with the last-quarter effort, where the Bulldogs encountered little opposition in piling on eight goals to one.

"Our more experienced guys need to make sure that we are a lot sharper than what we were," Harvey said.

"There are areas where players need to understand that they need to get their game right in order for us to challenge, to win games.

"I think they got something like 18 goals from our turnovers."

Despite expressing frustration and disappointment at the Dockers' effort, Harvey urged fans not to become disillusioned.

"What it does do is it gives us a real good indication of what we need to do to actually close the gap on these sides," Harvey said.

"It's round one.

"We were fielding a young side which is inexperienced, particularly in games.

"It's what you learn from it and how you rebound from it that really mattes.

"You can't accept the way it happened. "We know the areas we need to address to hopefully not have those problems again.

"I think after one game you don't become disillusioned."

Defender Roger Hayden, who was a late withdrawal after suffering a slight tear in his hamstring, is facing a race against time to be fit for Sunday's clash with Essendon at Etihad Stadium.

But former Bomber Dean Solomon is available for selection after serving his suspension for his off-the-ball elbow on Geelong's Cameron Ling last year.
