Jack to return to NZ rugby

Veteran All Blacks lock Chris Jack has re-signed with the New Zealand Rugby Union until 2011.

Jack, who left New Zealand rugby after the failed 2007 World Cup campaign to link with English club Saracens, has given himself a chance to be involved in the next four-yearly tournament in New Zealand.

The 67-Test veteran will rejoin the Crusaders from next year and is likely to be aligned with the Tasman union before then, although that is yet to be confirmed and he will not contest this year's Air NZ Cup.

New Zealand Rugby Union general manager professional rugby Neil Sorensen says the signing is an excellent outcome for New Zealand rugby.

"We're rapt to have a player like Chris back with all his experience. It's great for our depth, he's eager and highly motivated," Sorenson said.

Jack joins five-eighth Luke McAlister in returning to New Zealand from the English game.

McAlister will return to New Zealand in June after ending his stint with Sale and is likely to link with the All Blacks in either the June Tests against France and Italy - if injuries strike key players - or in the subsequent Tri-Nations.
