Blues to monitor injured Fevola

Carlton full-forward Brendan Fevola has a new injury concern after his quiet match in the Blues' loss to Fremantle.

A week after his eight goals against Hawthorn, Fevola only managed five kicks and one goal on Saturday as the Dockers beat the Blues at Carrara.

Fevola went back into the rooms inside the first minute of the game and had regular spells off the field.

He has been playing with a bruised heel, but it is understood an upper leg injury restricted him against the Dockers.

While the Blues will monitor their goalkicking star during the week, once again premiers Hawthorn have the biggest injury concerns.

Norm Smith Medallist Luke Hodge could miss a couple of weeks with a groin problem and Chance Bateman (calf), Michael Osborne (hand), Cameron Stokes (hamstring) and Brendan Whitecross (groin) will keep Hawthorn's medical staff busy during the week.

The Hawks could regain Brent Guerra for Friday night's massive game against resurgent Fremantle at Subiaco.

Western Bulldog Ryan Griffen suffered a corked buttock in Sunday's AAMI Stadium win over Adelaide and Shaun Higgins (groin) was a late withdrawal.

West Coast lost key midfielder Daniel Kerr for the second half of Sunday's home win over Melbourne with a groin injury.

Kerr was clearly in trouble during the second quarter and did not return after halftime.

Luckless Melbourne defender Jared Rivers was stretchered off late in the second quarter with an ankle injury.

Geelong's No.1 player Gary Ablett is talking up his chances of returning for the home match next Saturday against North Melbourne.

The Cats expected Ablett to miss two matches after straining a groin muscle last Sunday against Melbourne.

Ablett said in a Sunday newspaper column he would return for the round-nine match against the Western Bulldogs at the latest.

He is currently a short-priced favourite for the Brownlow Medal, but news of his injury caused his odds to ease noticeably.

Apart from the sickening head clash between Richmond's Alex Rance and Brisbane's Troy Selwood, there were two shoulder injuries to come out of Saturday's MCG match.

Rance had surgery on Sunday to fix three facial fractures and will be out of action for two to three weeks, while Selwood could play next weekend.

Lion Jared Brennan and Richmond backman Kel Moore were nursing shoulder injuries after the match.

Tigers onballer Daniel Jackson left the field with blood spilling down his face, but the cut is not expected to sideline him.

Steven Salopek (dislocated shoulder) and Kane Cornes (AC joint) are big concerns for Port Adelaide following Saturday night's loss to North Melbourne.

"The injuries to Salopek and Kane Cornes are very significant for us - they will be very difficult to replace," said coach Mark Williams.

The Kangaroos also have fresh injury concerns - Matt Campbell has suffered another hamstring problem, while Brady Rawlings (calf) was a late withdrawal from the five-point win.
