Richmond coach enjoys job - week by week

Relieved Richmond coach Terry Wallace remains unsure when his reign at the AFL club will end but insists he's enjoying every second of it.

The Tigers gave their boss something to smile about with a pulsating three-point victory over Fremantle at Subiaco Oval on Saturday night.

But while the win brought some temporary joy to the struggling club, Wallace said his job continued to be assessed on a week-by-week basis.

Wallace is in the final year of his five-year contract with the club and has already confirmed he won't be coaching next year.

"I've said the whole time I will do what the Richmond footy club needs me to do," Wallace replied when asked how much longer he will be at the helm.

"That's where it's been, that's where it continues to stay.

"The whole way through it's always been a situation where it moves over a two-week, one-week, three-week period because of the nature of (how) the game moves.

"I'm hoping to be there (coaching) next week against my old team the Bulldogs.

"I enjoy every game I'm involved in.

"This is a fantastic game. It might have been my 500th (as a player and coach) but it was just as fun as my first."

Wallace dismissed suggestions his health was suffering due to the stress of the job.

And he praised forward Mitch Morton, who kicked the winning goal against the Dockers.

Morton was blasted by Wallace two weeks ago and unwittingly sparked a mini player revolt when he played on in the dying minutes against Port Adelaide and kicked the ball out on the full - allowing the Power to swing the ball down the other end and steal the game.

But the former Eagle made amends against the Dockers, marking strongly near the boundary line before wheeling onto his right boot and snapping truly at the 29-minute mark.

"He's had a pretty tough fortnight himself," Wallace said.

"I thought he handled himself publicly really well and I thought his performances over the past two weeks have spoken for themselves.

"I think he's done a fantastic job. People have made more of it (the incident two weeks ago) than Mitch made of it to be honest."

Meanwhile, Fremantle coach Mark Harvey is facing a personnel crisis after four more players succumbed to injury.

Luke McPharlin (knee), Michael Johnson (ankle), Stephen Hill (thigh) and Des Headland (quad) could all miss Saturday's clash with Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium.

Three WAFL matches take place on Monday but Harvey said he would withdraw several players from those games due to the likelihood they will be recalled for the Power clash.

While disappointed with the loss to Richmond - and the injuries that came with it - Harvey believed the bruising encounter would hold the club in good stead.

"In the short term it's probably going to hurt us a lot but in the long term it might be the making of players and the team," Harvey said.

"If you want to go have a look at our players, they are pretty battered and bruised from this game.
