Carlton have signed young players Paul Bower and Dennis Armfield to new deals which will keep them with the club for the next two AFL seasons.

Key defender Bower, who is currently out of the side injured, is 21 with 37 AFL games to his name, while running player Armfield is 22 and has played 20 matches.

"They're only babies, these kids, and they're going to be great players for us in the future," Blues president Stephen Kernahan said ahead of Saturday's match against Richmond at the MCG.

"It's absolutely vitally important, with the Gold Coast coming in 2011 and probably west Sydney in 2012, that we secure our young talent because there's going to be some big figures around over the next few years."
