Wojcinski not left holding the baby

Having missed out in 2008, not even a newborn child would have stopped Geelong speedster David Wojcinski from taking his place in Saturday's AFL grand final against St Kilda.

Wife Casey gave birth to their second child on Wednesday, but had the baby boy chosen to arrive a few days late, Wojcinski would still have run out with the Cats' 22 - with his wife's blessing.

"I would've played, that's for sure. Casey said 'if it comes to grand final day, play, why wouldn't you?'" Wojcinski revealed as he took part in the grand final parade.

"I played in the grand final a couple of years ago so it's good to be back playing in another grand final and hopefully we can win it tomorrow.

"We've got a good side, hopefully everyone can pull it together tomorrow and bring it home for the Cats."

A premiership contributor for Geelong in their drought-breaking 2007 team, Wojcinski was omitted from the side that attempted to go back-to-back last year, and he said he had plenty of empathy for this year's unlucky one Mathew Stokes.

"It's a lot different, a lot better, you want to be playing, you don't want to miss out, unfortunately Stokesy's missed out this year," Wojcinski said.

"He thoroughly deserves a spot in the side but fortunately for us we've got so many players who can play on the big stage.

"It's unfortunate for Stokesy but that's just the way it goes, he knows that and I know that and it's just how it is.

"He was awesome (talking publicly about his omission on Thursday), I had a good chat to him this morning about it and told him he'd done a good job and he's really looking forward to tomorrow."

Cats key forward Tom Hawkins said the selection choice had come down to Stokes and fellow small forward Shannon Byrnes.

"Stokesy's been a bit stiff to miss out but the decision they made was to go with Shannon, and Shannon's been great all year," he said.

"Stokesy's handled it well, he's in good spirits."
