Carlton have delisted long-serving AFL defender Jordan Bannister.

The 26-year-old spent nine seasons in the AFL - three with Essendon and six with the Blues - but was never able to cement a spot at either club, notching 67 matches in total, including just two this year.

He is one of four players cut from the Blues' primary list, along with midfielder Adam Bentick, who played 68 games after making his debut in 2004.

The others are Adam Hartlett (11 games) and Jake Edwards (five), who the Blues had hoped would develop as tall forwards.

Rookie list players Darren Pfeiffer, Lachlan Hill and Luke Stanton were also cut.

Pfeiffer spent two seasons on Adelaide's list without playing a match, then played his only eight AFL games with Carlton in 2008, before spending this year on the rookie list.
