Wallabies insist burnout not a factor

The Wallabies insist burnout won't be a factor against Scotland at Murrayfield on Saturday despite coach Robbie Deans naming 12 players to start their fourth Test in as many weeks.

In the only change to the run-on side, Deans has recalled 108-Test flanker George Smith and rested David Pocock, who required facial stitches after his man-of-the-match display in last Sunday's 20-20 draw with Ireland in Dublin.

With Pocock omitted altogether from the match-day 22, back-rower Richard Brown has won a place on the bench, his first Test call-up of the tour.

Sekope Kepu is also in line for his first Test appearance of the tour after being promoted to the bench in place of Matt Dunning as the reserve prop.

Highlighting the growing stability in his team, and obvious durability, Deans has asked a dozen players to back up for their fourth Test in 22 days, including the entire tight five plus tireless back-rowers Wycliff Palu and skipper Rocky Elsom.

"The boys are feeling pretty good. Obviously we adjust their load according to their state," Deans said.

"George is fresh for sure. I don't think fatigue will be an issue, but we've got 22 blokes as well so we've got some pretty keen blokes on the bench if it becomes an issue."

Not concerned at all, Elsom senses the Wallabies are more motivated than ever to play.

"But you've got to be mindful of not running blokes into the ground at the same time," he said.

"It only becomes a case of working them into the ground when it becomes a problem for one of the players - playing blokes when you they're a little bit injured."

Captain Elsom insists the Wallabies have put their despairing draw against Ireland, which cost the tourists any chance of completing the grand slam, behind them.

"The boys weren't happy with the draw, that's for sure," he said.

"The fact there were a few things that came back to bite us in that Irish game helped us to focus on this game. It's about tailoring your preparation to make sure it doesn't happen again."
