An experienced company director has become the first woman to join the board of the Port Adelaide AFL club.

The appointments of Jane Jeffreys and Nick House were approved by the South Australian Football Commission on Thursday.

Port Adelaide president Brett Duncanson said House and Jeffreys brought skills to the board which had been specifically targeted by the club.

Their appointments follow a three-month search which included a skills analysis of the current board and interviews with a large number of potential candidates.

"Nick House brings a great deal of business experience, but also very importantly for us a focus on community issues and involvement," Mr Duncanson said.

"Jane Jeffreys brings considerable expertise with organisational structure and governance matters, human resources and in the entertainment and tourism sector.

"The skill sets that both Nick and Jane bring will really complement the current board and provide great value as we develop our community engagement in South Australia and our push into the Northern Territory."

Jeffreys is an experienced company director and managing director of Jane Jeffreys Consulting, a management consulting firm based in Adelaide.

She has extensive experience in business, tourism and hospitality including as a consultant to both the public and private sectors.

She was formerly the acting chief executive of the Adelaide Casino and an executive with Hilton International Australasia.

House is a builder and managing director of the House Group of Companies.
