Demons put on notice against Magpies

Melbourne star Brad Green will run onto the ground for Saturday's game against Collingwood with some "home truths" ringing in his ears.

The normally placid Demons coach Dean Bailey was unimpressed by last week's limp opening round loss to Hawthorn.

The tone "went up a few decibels" Green admitted, with the players determined to atone in a tough task against Collingwood at the MCG on Saturday.

"On Monday, at our team meeting some home truths were spoken there and we're really looking forward to the challenge of taking on Collingwood and a great win on the weekend," said Green, who plays his 200th match on the weekend.

"Certainly some of the players know where they stand coming into this week.

"We got together on Monday as a leadership group and spoke about our performance and what can we do to improve.

"No doubt some of our senior and middle tier players didn't play up to expectations.

"They know that and they're looking for improved performance this weekend."

Lacklustre football is also an issue that needs to be addressed, he said, adding the team needed to lift its effort to an "all-time high" to challenge the Magpies.

"I reckon we played stop-start footy and Dean has been drilling it into us to play exciting footy," Green said.

"We've just got to get the ball going, play on at all costs and get it into our forward line as quickly as possible."

He also praised young recruits Tom Scully and Jack Trengove, who debuted last week against the Hawks and were two of Melbourne's standout performers.

"They showed on the weekend, they've got no baggage and they just came in and played football and they played like we all should play," Green said.
