Parker looking to start against Sharks

Brisbane's on-field janitor Corey Parker is set to make a surprise injury comeback against Cronulla on Sunday provided he gets through a series of fitness tests at Red Hill on Thursday.

Brisbane have missed Parker's clean-up work around the ruck and his unexpected return would be yet another boost with star back Israel Folau (finger) and winger Jharal Yow Yeh (knee) both booked for injury returns.

Parker, who recently became a father for the first time, suffered a medial ligament strain against Canberra last month.

He was not expected back until at least next weekend's clash with the Bulldogs.

But as he does on the field, he has worked tirelessly on his rehab and made a strong statement to Henjak with an eye-catching solo training session on Tuesday.

"We're going to check him tomorrow," Henjak told AAP.

"He could be better than an outside chance.

"He does a heap of work and tightens you up defensively which really helps your interchange."

While Henjak will sleep on who may make room for Parker, he could drop utility Alex Glenn to the bench to give him some interchange options.

Meanwhile Henjak said his decision to give rookie props Dunamis Lui and Mitchell Dodds a shot at starting on Sunday, with the more experienced Nick Kenny on the interchange bench, had been a reward for their efforts in Wollongong where they tried hard but were outclassed by St George Illawarra on Friday.

"Both those young kids impressed me," he said.

"Dodds did a ton of work and so did Dunamis and I felt they deserved the recognition this weekend."

Henjak said Kenny's back condition would be checked again after he trained on Thursday.

"With that kind of injury he has to train and then see how he pulls up the next day," he said.

Kenny, who has already had back surgery, is resigned to playing in pain when the injury, which forced him to withdraw from last week's loss to the Dragons, flares up.
