Reborn Purtell loving life at Penrith

Penrith centre Adrian Purtell has put his great start to the NRL season down to a change of environment.

Purtell spent three years at Canberra before making the shift to the Panthers this season and has racked up five tries, including two in the 40-12 win over the Warriors on Sunday.

And the 25-year-old believes the change of scenery has helped take his game to the next level.

"I'm loving it, I probably needed a fresh start and I've got away from Canberra," Purtell said.

"The boys have made it very easy for me here and I'm enjoying my footy.

"Most footy clubs are the same in most respects, you've got 28 good mates and you've all got the same goals.

"But I'm just enjoying my time here, it's a fresh start, new faces and a new place to live and I'm enjoying all of that."

The win over the Warriors was the Panthers' third straight victory and catapulted them into second spot on the ladder and Purtell revealed confidence in the camp is sky high.

"The things you look at are away wins and consistency," he said.

"We've had three wins in a row now and we're looking forward to a big game at home now against the Tigers.

"This is one of the toughest places to go to in the comp, everyone knows that. But we prepared well, we came over a day early.

"We had a job to do over here and we're very happy to get the two points."

Meanwhile, Panthers captain Petero Civoniceva believes his side are starting to play to their potential and their sluggish start is well behind them.

"We always start out with a game plan and for the first time this year we've started to get a roll on in terms of executing that game plan," he said.

"At the start of the season we showed it in patches and at this level of competition you can't afford to do that.

"Over the last few weeks we're starting to build in confidence, but while we're happy with the win we can improve a lot in what we do."
