In-demand Schwarzer in a happy place

As Arsenal circle, Socceroos goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer maintains he's happy at fellow English Premier League club Fulham.

Schwarzer admits he is flattered by interest from the London giants, with English newspaper reports suggesting Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger wants to sign the 37-year-old.

Looming as one of the busier goalkeepers at the upcoming World Cup, Schwarzer wants to put aside any transfer speculation until the Socceroos' South African adventure is finished.

But with a year remaining on his Fulham deal, veteran Schwarzer says he has enjoyed his past two seasons more than any as he revels in career-best form for both his club and the Socceroos.

"The last two years for me has been like a dream come true. It's been a lot of hard work, a lot of dedication, but it's all come together for club and country," Schwarzer said.

"I couldn't be happier with the way things have panned out since the move from Middlesbrough to Fulham.

"It's always flattering when you are linked to a huge club. But the last two years of my career have perhaps been the most enjoyable.

"I've got a year left on my contract and as far as I'm concerned I'm here concentrating on the World Cup and hopefully trying to do the best I possibly can for Australia."

Schwarzer is back in training after a minor thumb strain sidelined him from the Socceroos' 2-1 win over New Zealand last week.

Whether or not he is rushed into the line-up for Tuesday's pre-World Cup friendly against Denmark, he admits the Socceroos need to perform better heading towards their June 13 World Cup opener against Germany than their unflattering display against the All Whites.

"There's huge amounts of improvement that need to be made from the New Zealand game," Schwarzer said.

"It was our first game together in a long time, but no excuses, it wasn't good enough.

"We all know it as players. That's not us. But it's very early days and we'd rather start off having a bad game against New Zealand than on June 13 against Germany."
