McKenna the only judge that counts: Hunt

Gold Coast recruit Karmichael Hunt says he has no interest in the views of those outside the fledgling AFL club on whether he has the skills to succeed in the code.

Hunt, who will make his VFL debut against Coburg on June 12 at Craigieburn, on Melbourne's outskirts, was again the subject of much attention as he trained in Melbourne on Friday.

But while there is expected to be even more focus when he takes to the playing field, given the varied opinions on whether he can make the grade after switching from rugby league, Hunt was unflustered.

"The only opinions that matter to me are Bluey's (Gold Coast coach Guy McKenna) and the rest of the coaching staff," Hunt said after Friday's session.

"It doesn't matter if there's two cameras or 100 TV stations out there watching, it's just up to me and if I feel comfortable.

"Obviously Bluey and that will pick me up on technique and everything else that comes along with it."

Hunt is expected to play three matches and be switched between attack, defence and the midfield, before the club gives him an early holiday, ahead of what will be a long physical and mental preparation for his debut AFL season.

McKenna predicted he would surprise the doubters and said he had already made an impression in his first training sessions this week.

"He's a lot more natural than I think a lot of people that hadn't seen him kick and were throwing some mud our way and certainly K's way (expected).

"I think they've had to sit back and go `Hang on, this bloke's a chance of making it,'" McKenna said.

"He's doing what he has to do ... he looks as natural as half of our side, so that's the exciting thing.

"We're looking forward to next week ... to him getting out and tearing the boys apart."
