Downing Street to fly English flag

The English flag will fly above 10 Downing Street - the prime minister's residence - in support of England's team at the World Cup.

Prime Minister David Cameron was urged in Parliament on Wednesday to "cut through the bureaucracy" and fly the red and white St George's flag throughout the June 11-July tournament in South Africa.

Normally, the Union Jack - which represents all of the UK - is flown over Downing Street.

But the other "home nations" - Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland - failed to qualify for the tournament.

"I'm sure that everyone in this House, no matter what part of the United Kingdom they come from, will be cheering 'Come on England'," Cameron said.

England play the US in Rustenburg on Saturday.
