Eagles coach sends ultimatum to fans

Besieged West Coast coach John Worsfold has told doubting Eagles fans to go and support another AFL club if they don't believe a bright future lies ahead.

The Eagles have won just four games this season and are almost certain to end up with their first ever wooden spoon.

But Worsfold remains adamant success lies just around the corner and believes he is the right man to lead the club to future glory.

"The people who want to sit and say 'well it's all miserable now' well that's fine," Worsfold told Perth radio station 6PR.

"Jump off, go and find another team to support and miss out on the great times this club will have going forward.

"This club has a great record and will come through, I'm telling you.

"We'll be a very strong club again in the near future. We won't stay down for too long.

"There's no doubt I can take the club where it's going to go because that's a matter of having the ability to build a group and I've got absolutely no doubt I can do that.

"This year we went in with a squad some 800 games younger than it was last year.

"I'm confident we can follow the path that Richmond and Melbourne have blazed."

Meanwhile, injured midfielder Daniel Kerr is confident he can return to his brilliant best next season despite experiencing a similar irritation to that experienced by former Richmond forward Matthew Richardson before he retired.

Kerr hasn't played since tearing the hamstring off his bone in round four, an injury that required surgery to reattach the torn tendons with a metal pin.

The 27-year-old said he had been experiencing some inflammation with the pin, but still believes he is on track to complete a full pre-season.

"The aggravation with the pin has only been the last couple of weeks as I stepped up the exercise," said Kerr, who has been doing some light running and weights work.

"It's something that I think Matthew Richardson went through when he had the similar surgery, he had problems with the pin as well.

"But the actual hamstring feels good.

"That's the aim, to be able to start the pre-season fit."

Kerr, who has played just 26 games since the start of 2008, said he would play the same explosive role that shot him to prominence earlier in his career.

"Well I'm only 27, I've been resting for two years so the body does feel a lot younger than 27," Kerr said.

"Everything's pretty good beside the hamstring.

"I'll play the exact same way that I've played my footy throughout my career.

"I'd imagine I'd be playing in similar positions and if you take away that explosive speed and run I don't think I'm much value to any team."

Kerr laughed off suggestions he should be used as trade bait at season's end.

"Well I'm not sure I'd be tradeable anyway after not playing for two years, so I wasn't too worried about getting traded," he said.
