Essendon have received a boost after a disappointing AFL season by announcing the re-signing of stars Scott Gumbleton, Mark McVeigh and Kyle Reimers.

The Bombers crashed out of finals contention this year, but that did not stop the trio committing to the club.

All three have signed two year extensions which will keep them at Windy Hill until the end of the 2012 season.

The news ensures 29-year-old McVeigh will remain a one-club player, while youngsters Gumbleton and Reimers have bright futures in the AFL.

"We are really pleased that Scott, Mark and Kyle have recommitted to the club for the next two years," said general manager of football operations Paul Hamilton on Thursday.

"The leadership (McVeigh) provides to our young group is also a big boost for the club and is valued very highly.

"All three players will be very important over the next couple of years in different roles."

For Gumbleton it was an easy decision to make with the 22-year-old believing he is part of a group on the verge of something special.

"We are obviously still developing as a playing group but I think our list has a lot of potential to deliver future success for the Essendon Football Club and that is something I want to be a part of," Gumbleton said.

"We are obviously going through a tough time at the moment but Essendon is a strong club and we will come out of this challenging time as a stronger and more united group and we are determined to do whatever it takes to take this proud club back to where it belongs."

Hamilton added that Gumbleton, who suffered broken ribs and a slightly punctured lung against St Kilda in round 18, would develop into a solid contributor for years to come.

"We are really pleased that Scott was able to play out the majority of the year and get some games under his belt and we are confident he will develop into a solid contributor over the years to come," he said.
