Richmond's reigning Coleman Medallist Jack Riewoldt will play his first game of the AFL pre-season on Friday.

Riewoldt is in the Tigers' squad to play Adelaide in a practice match at Visy Park, after overcoming a minor knee injury.

Captain Chris Newman will also play for the first time this year, having recovered from a hamstring injury.

But Richmond remain without key defender Kelvin Moore (hip) against a virtual full-strength Crows.

Adelaide skipper Nathan van Berlo is back, after injuring his hamstring on the opening night of the pre-season competition.

Forward Jason Porplyzia returns, while star big man Kurt Tippett has been named despite injuring an ankle against Carlton last weekend.

Young forward Ricky Henderson, concussed against the Blues, will miss the game.

Luckless ruckman Max Bailey is likely to play for Hawthorn for the first time in more than 18 months against Melbourne in Launceston on Friday night.

The 24-year-old, on the comeback from a third knee reconstruction, is in the squad and a good chance to play what would be his first match since late 2009.

Ex-captain Sam Mitchell will skip the trip to be with his wife, who is in the late stages of pregnancy.

He and new skipper Luke Hodge, yet to play this year with an achilles injury, are the only big names missing.

The Demons are near full strength, with captain Brad Green, Aaron Davey, Liam Jurrah, Jack Grimes, Colin Garland and Clint Bartram all returning.

James Frawley, Cale Morton and Jordie McKenzie are still missing through injury.

Rugby league convert Israel Folau is set to make his first AFL appearance for Greater Western Sydney against Port Adelaide on Saturday.

His debut has been delayed by his rehabilitation from ankle surgery.

But Gold Coast captain Gary Ablett will start the Suns' debut season without ever having led the team.

Calf and groin complaints which have held back the Brownlow Medallist throughout the pre-season will also keep him out of the practice clash with Brisbane at Southport on Sunday.
